Color and Geometry in Islamic Art

Part math, part art: for centuries, artists in Muslim contexts have used geometry and mathematical principles to create stimulating patterns for architecture, textiles, manuscripts, ceramics, and paintings. Repeating and interlaced circles, squares, stars, and polygons come together to create mesmerizing designs. But how are these designs created? Where do you begin to try it out yourself?

Life Science Library
This exhibit showcases several plant species native to the region now known as Texas, and surrounding areas, that were consumed and used by several Indigenous tribes. It also discusses modern foraging practices and identification details through guidebooks and encyclopedia length compilations by local experts in botany.

national novel writing month

Do you dream of writing a book, but somehow never DO it? If so, National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) may be for you! NaNoWriMo occurs every November and challenges participants to write the first draft of a 50,000 word novel in just a month. This curated book display celebrates novels begun as NaNo projects and highlights some of the writing craft books from the UT Libraries' collection.
