Join us January 9-10, 2025 for a beginner-friendly Immersive Python Workshop!
This in-person, two-day Python workshop hosted by the UT Libraries and UT Open Source Program Office is aimed at UT students, faculty, and staff researchers. You don't need to have any previous knowledge of Python to participate in this workshop. This example-driven workshop will start with an introduction to writing Python code and then participants will choose a particular track to learn more about more specific applications of Python in research.
Day 1
1-2 pm - Intro to Python Basics
2-3 pm - Python and APIs for Retrieving Data
3-4 pm - Managing and Processing Files
4-4:30 pm - Optional Software Check to Prepare for Day 2
Day 2
1-3 pm - Split Tracks (Sentiment Analysis | Geospatial Analysis | Data Visualization)
3-4 pm - Sharing Code in GitHub
Short tutorials alternate with hands-on practical exercises. Participants are encouraged both to help one another, and to try applying what they learn to their own research problems during and between sessions.
Workshop sessions will run Thursday, January 9 (1-4 pm CT), and Friday, January 10 (1-4 pm CT), in the PCL Scholars Lab. There will be breaks, and Helpers will be on hand to assist.
Registration will open on Wednesday, December 4, at 12 pm. Space in this workshop is limited so please register early — registration for the last workshop filled up in 1 hour.

Helpers will be responsible for assisting workshop attendees install Python, GitHub Desktop, and VSCode on their laptops, help attendees work through challenges, and answer general Python questions.
