The University of Texas Libraries announces the launch of new library search tools coming in January 2020.
The new tools – designed specifically for use in libraries – will replace the Libraries’ current resource management system with a more robust option that will improve functionality for users while streamlining underlying management processes to provide a highly integrated solution for resource discovery.
The system is distinguished by a unified suite of tools featuring a user discovery component – Primo, which serves as the front end interface – and a resource management component – Alma – that will enhance user experience while optimizing workflows for back end processes at the Libraries. The Primo/Alma integration has already been adopted by other peer institutions and Association of Research Libraries (ARL) institutions with great success.
Primo is the user-facing discovery service, where Libraries’ users can locate physical and digital resources in all locations, with availability information for physical resources, and instant access to digital resources.
Alma will provide the University of Texas Libraries with a comprehensive, unified approach to managing the ever-increasing complexity of our library resources. It employs robust technology and comprehensive analytical tools which will allow us to more efficiently manage resources, build smarter collections and deliver these to Libraries’ users.
