About the Fine Arts Library
The Fine Arts Library (FAL) supports research and instruction in the College of Fine Arts, including the Butler School of Music, the School of Design and Creative Technologies and the Departments of Art and Art History and Theatre and Dance. The Library features collections related to various fields of fine arts and design, stewards the Visual Resource Collection and is home to the Foundry, a makerspace for all members of the campus community.

Our Collections
Featured Resource - Sharir and Sharir/Bustamante Dance Collection
The Sharir/Sharir+Bustamante Dance Collection spans four decades of Dr. Yacov Sharir’s career, beginning with his 1977 founding of the American Deaf Dance Company, and documenting his tenure with the Sharir Dance Company, UT’s professional company-in-residence, which he founded in 1982. The company took the name Sharir+Bustamante Danceworks in 1998, acknowledging José Luis Bustamante as co-artistic director. The collection features the choreography of Sharir and Bustamante through the 2007 final season of S+BDW and beyond, along with the work of many guest artists and collaborators.
Historical Music Recordings Collection
The Historical Music Recordings Collection (HMRC) is an archive of audio recordings in all formats and contains approximately 300,000 items making it one of the largest archives of its kind in the USA. Within the HMRC two types of collections can be found: the general collection and the more specific, named collections.
Visual Resources Collection
The Visual Resources Collection is a collection of over 100,000 digital images that can be used by all UT faculty, students and staff for their research and teaching and are available for viewing on JSTOR, an image database. The collection originally developed from an archival collection of some 550,000 slides, now housed at the Collections Deposit Library on the south side of campus.
Zines Collection
The Fine Arts Library's zines are on the 5th Floor and available for browsing. These zines represent a wide range of subcultures, viewpoints, hobbies, artistic practices, and activist movements. If you would like to see them in person, simply ask the staff at the Check Out Desk for directions to the Zine section. Certain rare and unique zines are in FAL special collections.
