The Fine Arts Library's Visual Resources Collection consists of two important collections of images of art, architecture, and design from all periods. The collections are curated in the Fine Arts Library, part of the University of Texas Libraries. There is an archival collection begun in the 1940s of some 550,000 slides, now housed at the Collections Deposit Library on the south side of campus. In addition, there is a growing collection of digital images (95,000+) which are available for viewing on DASE (Digital Archive Services), one of the University’s digital repository sites. The Visual Resources Collection (VRC) staff does outreach work and oversees the uploading into DASE of digital images of objects from various collections on Campus, including the Blanton Museum of Art, the John L. Warfield Center for African and African American Studies, the Art and Art History Collection, the Mesoamerica Center, the Visual Arts Center, and the Landmarks works of sculpture.
All UT faculty, students, and staff needing images of art, architecture, and design for their teaching, research, and publications have access to the DASE VRC Collection of high-resolution digital images that are organized by easy-to-find, accurate metadata. The preservation of this Collection by UT Libraries also ensures that these digital images will continue to grow in number and to be available for future scholars' endeavors.
